ShopBack is Asia-Pacific's leading shopping and rewards platform. Present in 13 markets with over half a million transactions daily, they connect over 20 million active users with 20,000 merchants and brand partners, driving over US$5.5B in annual GMV and US$900M+ cashback awarded to date.
Given their current scale, it's hard to believe that just over a decade ago, ShopBack set out to help people across the region save money with cashback solely on online shopping. Very quickly after the platform went live, ShopBack identified an opportunity to create a dedicated travel vertical. Their goal for the vertical was to provide strong travel offerings that would drive incremental booking volumes for travel partners, enabling ShopBack to earn commission on those bookings and pass cashback rewards back to their members.
However, launching a travel vertical presented unique challenges for a platform primarily known for retail cashback. To win member confidence for these higher-value travel purchases and provide a truly competitive service from day one, ShopBack knew they needed two key elements: access to a vast selection of global travel options and the backing of an established, trusted name in the travel industry. This was about more than just adding inventory—it was about ensuring a reliable and appealing booking experience that members would trust.
“We needed a partner who could offer both scale and trust. Rocket Travel by Agoda gave us global reach with local credibility, which was key to winning our users’ confidence early on.” - Hazel Then, Regional Head of Commercial, ShopBack
ShopBack partnered with Rocket Travel by Agoda (RTA) to quickly launch a compelling travel offering for their members. The core of the solution was a scalable affiliate model: ShopBack would direct its large, high-intent member base to Agoda.com, RTA's primary supply source. It also allowed ShopBack to leverage Agoda's trusted brand in APAC, giving members the confidence to book travel through ShopBack from day one.
This partnership equipped ShopBack to act as a key demand channel without needing to build or operate its own booking platform. Plus, working closely with RTA on promotional campaigns meant ShopBack could often provide their members with even better cashback rates and exclusive travel deals, reinforcing their commitment to helping users save more money and time. It was a clear win-win: ShopBack could confidently launch and grow its travel offering, and RTA expanded its reach to millions of shoppers.
“RTA’s model allowed us to launch cashback for travel at speed. Their agility in marketing support and willingness to tailor incentives make them an ideal partner.” - Hazel Then, Regional Head of Commercial, ShopBack
The ShopBack and Rocket Travel by Agoda (RTA) affiliate partnership was built on a straightforward technical setup. The primary user journey involves ShopBack members being redirected from ShopBack’s platform directly to Agoda.com, where they can browse and complete their travel bookings. To ensure every booking is accurately tracked for commissions and cashback, RTA enabled a crucial post-booking API for ShopBack. This technical integration ensures the entire process runs smoothly and transparently.
Through this ongoing collaboration, ShopBack is able to consistently deliver attractive cashback offers to its users, while RTA’s campaign support and the sharing of valuable data insights empower both teams to refine their strategies and maximize results.
“The post-booking API was a game-changer. It gave us transparency and faster cashback confirmation, which built trust with users. RTA’s campaign input and shared data helped us optimise fast.” - Hazel Then, Regional Head of Commercial, ShopBack
ShopBack's 10-year affiliate partnership with Rocket Travel by Agoda (RTA) has been a win for everyone: ShopBack members enjoy great travel deals, ShopBack achieves significant growth in their travel vertical, and RTA expands its reach to millions of savvy APAC consumers. A key factor in this success is ShopBack's ability to offer highly attractive cashback deals, often enhanced by RTA's flexible approach to commissions during tactical campaigns.
For the first time in May 2025, ShopBack ran a regional campaign together with Agoda, in celebration of Agoda's 20th birthday. By combining Agoda's extensive hotel offerings with exclusive cashback rewards for ShopBack’s users, ShopBack was able to deliver exceptional value and memorable travel experiences, resulting in over 12,000 orders in just one day!
“ShopBack boosts customer engagement for Agoda by making travel more rewarding for our users. It’s exciting to see our teams co-innovating travel solutions, identifying new customers, and developing promotions which help our customers see more of the world, for less” - Damien Pfirsch, Chief Commercial Officer, Rocket Travel by Agoda
“It’s one of our longest-standing partnerships for a reason. We get performance, responsiveness, and a shared focus on member value. RTA helps us make travel sticky on ShopBack.” - Hazel Then, Regional Head of Commercial, ShopBack
After a decade of successful partnership, ShopBack and Rocket Travel by Agoda (RTA) continue to focus on data-driven growth and innovation. The collaboration is getting smarter, with plans to make the member experience even more rewarding.
“We're excited to deepen this partnership in smarter ways - especially around faster cashback journeys and data-led user targeting. Agoda remains core to our travel ambitions across APAC. Beyond the tech and campaigns, it’s the people at RTA that make this partnership work. They’re responsive, strategic, and genuinely invested in shared success. It’s rare to find a partner team that feels like an extension of your own.,” - Joel Leong, Co-founder, ShopBack
